Caddy Docs for macOS · Effective

Caddy Docs (“Caddy”) is a macOS app made by Blake Morris. This policy is short because the app does very little with your information.

What Caddy collects

Nothing. Caddy has no account system, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no update mechanism of its own. It makes no network connections. No information about you, your Mac, or your documents leaves your computer through Caddy.

Caddy runs in Apple’s App Sandbox and requests only three entitlements: the sandbox itself, permission to open files you choose, and permission to remember those files between launches. It does not request the network entitlement, so the operating system does not permit it to reach the internet at all.

What Caddy stores on your Mac

Caddy keeps its own records inside its sandbox container in your user Library:

  • the list of documents and folders you have added to each Caddy, as macOS security-scoped bookmarks, which are references that let Caddy reopen the same files later;
  • notes you write in Caddy, as RTF files;
  • your settings.

Caddy reads the documents you add in place. It does not copy them and it does not change them. Removing a document from a Caddy removes only Caddy’s reference to it. Deleting Caddy’s container, or the app and then the container, removes everything Caddy stored.

Permissions

Caddy asks for access to files only when you choose them, through Add Files, drag and drop, or Finder’s Open With. It requests no other system permissions. It does not use Accessibility, screen recording, the microphone, the camera, your location, your contacts, or your calendar.

When Caddy hands you to another app

Two things in Caddy open something outside of Caddy, and both are yours to start:

  • Open in Word, Open in Preview, and Reveal in Finder hand a document to the app that owns it. What that app does with the document is governed by that app, not by Caddy.
  • The Privacy Policy and Support buttons in Settings open this website in your default browser. Your browser makes that request, in the ordinary way, and this site is served as static files with no analytics, no cookies, no trackers, and no third-party requests of any kind.

Third parties

Caddy includes no third-party code or services and shares nothing with anyone.

Children

Caddy is a general productivity tool and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
